“Farming Landscapes” Walk at Hollins Farm, Ennerdale CA23 3AL

Saturday 17th December 2016 from 10.30am – 1pm

Come and experience a working Lakeland hill farm in the jaws of the wild and remote Ennerdale valley.

Will and Sam Rawling will be hosting a Farming Landscapes walk at Hollins Farm, Ennerdale CA23 3AL on Saturday 17th December from 10.30am to 1pm.  Hollins Farm has been farmed by the Rawling family for at least 10 generations and is based around the native Herdwick sheep and Aberdeen Angus type beef cattle. The farm sits among ancient native woodland and semi improved permanent pasture with Croasdale Beck running through the middle of the farm before merging with the River Ehen in the village of Ennerdale Bridge.  The whole of the farm is part of a higher level environmental scheme and the farming system integrates food production with environmental management.

The walk and talk will be suitable for all ages and abilities with Will Rawling leading a more leisurely walk around the farm whilst his son Sam will accompany those looking for more of a strenuous walk up to the higher land on the farm. Both walks will be tailored to accommodate the weather and ground conditions.  Walking boots or wellies are essential and waterproof clothing recommended.

Hollins Farm is 500m North of Ennerdale Bridge on the Kirkland road and there will be Farmer Network event signs at the farm entrance.  All are welcome but please no dogs.

The event has been made possible by funding from the Crofton Trust Fund, the Cumberland Building Society and Carr’s Group Fund administered by the Cumbria Community Foundation.  This is a free event but voluntary contributions to the Prince’s Countryside Fund will be gratefully accepted.  With any questions, please contact the Farmer Network office on 01768 868615.
